Abstract

Diagnosis can be defined as the identification of the cause or nature (i.e., etiology) of a syndrome by evaluation of its signs and symptoms as well as from the results of supportive tests in any individual patient. In the absence of gold standards, determining a diagnosis involves estimation of the probability of a suspected condition.
